iPad – a bitter iTablet to swallow!!

Disappointingly underwhelmed by the introduction of apples new dohicky. It’s a big iPhone without the phone, or an expensive iPod touch… They could have done so much… Obviously they couldn’t blow the macbook air out of the water completely so they have taken a slow left hook at e-book readers… but it’s hardly the death nail for them either… So, what are you left with? A big iPhone and a hollow feeling inside :(

I dunno, maybe it’s worth the sofa surfing porn raid… you still have one hand free to pull yer keks up when the missus walks in, and there is no more squinting at a tiny screen, so it’s probably good for perving without the cloud of macular degeneration and the cost of surgery.

Phanbouy nirvana??? hmm… I think even the hardcore among us will be a little sad inside. I think that really it’s just a Newton version 2.

Maybe the third version will be better – you know, like the iPhone was.

It is a bog computer. Save your cash and get a netbook. The keyboard is better and it can do two things at the same time.

One question, if it doesn’t support flash then how does it play youtube videos?

Notta says “no chance”. They will sell a million of them to the million morons who bought the iPodTouch. Oh shid, I bought one for my mrs at xmas, now where did I put my credit card….

  • Yeah, I’m still not sure. I was expecting a tablet PC/Mac/Whatever since Apple have never made one of them, and then Apple adding all the things that make Apple Apple… but alas. As a device it is Apple – it’s pretty, it’s stylish, it does stuff… but it isn’t going to revolutionise anything. HP and compaq have been pooping themselves for months, but can now relax with copious quantities of arse butter to cool the sphinkta.

Talking of which, paraphrasing Stephen Fry’s 3 page expression as “I like it” seems to do it justice, and I just demand more!

Phone/Camera/GPS all missing in version 1 – just like the iPhone – how will version 2 fair… will I wait till then… Oh I don’t flippin know, all I know is that it still needs a couple of things to be useful, but I don’t buy things because they’re useful… I may wait until the second coming, but then equally I may be in the queue the day of release.

  • Oh, another good thing that seems to be understated by the anti-apple brigade is that the device is 3G unlocked, meaning it will probably work on any carrier (as long as you can get the mini-sim) eat that apple pan-boys.

Eek, I may be turning into a fanboy myself.

  • Multitasketer

You would have thought they would have sorted out the multitasking ability by now, and it doesn’t have a camera or GPS. The iPad is just lame!

  • The doctor dons his full-on-fanboy-suite.

What is this “the thing doesn’t multitask” crap. Do you even know what multi tasking is? Of course it multi tasks you mong. The clock continues to run while you use the GUI, the music continues when you surf the web, you get alerts and calendar event notifications when you’re doing things (or even when the device is switched off) – is this not multi tasking you ignorant spastic.

What you actually mean is you cannot run 2 non-apple applications at once.

Fair point then. But why would you want to… When you’re playing “need for speed” why would you suddenly want to ‘nip over to your email and come back to where you left off’ Not even laptops do this?

So the argument comes if you want to run something in the background… well, like what? Possibly like something that goes and does something sometimes… fuckwits!

Because you want to write something that checks your alert queue in the background… well, why not writ an application that sends the user an SMS or calendar hook in?

When RAM is at a premium you don’t want 37 open applications or else you end up with Windows CE all over again. Things clashing with each other, interfering with everything, hanging and locking up the entire OS… too messy to think about.

iPad/iPhone/touch are not computers/laptops, however there are still 140,000 apps in the store downloading over 3 billion apps since it’s inception 2 years ago… so they must be on to something as that is not just a hard core fanboy few, that’s 50 million people with a device that does what it does.

What apple have missed here is the ability to charge people (Developers) for validating their app to be allowed to run in a protected environment “stream”. For example virus scanners that you don’t actually need unless you jailbreak your phone, but it’s I can think of off the top of my head. You would only be allowed to operate one of that stream for example, but would give you as a user more flexibility – and the developer would be more committed to build a better application that doesn’t crash since they would need to charge for the app to recover the cost apple just billed them… meaning people would have to buy it, which means the developer will have to make it worth buying… etc.

By the way, I don’t see any smart phone making tea, or giving me head but then they’re not designed to do either, so quit bitching about what these things can’t do, and focus on what they are designed to do – pick at that if you have to.
