Tis the season to holiday!

Eventually brought to you be the letters ‘S’ and ‘A’, the number 7 and for fuck sake Africa work out what broadband is!!!.

So, having landed on a different continent it was clear that technology was a new thing – currently in South Africa where “The internet” is not a swear word. We are staying at a place called Kwa Maritane, which means “place of the rock” in tswana – the local language. I’m not sure if that’s a really cool name or a clever parody on really thick Afrikaners… although I think they wouldn’t get it. For the non-South African among you, a “rock” is a slightly derogatory term for really thick Afrikaners :)

So, our hotel. I think Aquila have beaten me to it. The sales blurb quite clearly states that there is high speed internet in all the rooms… Well, the link light may be on, but there is definitely no homepage! Oh, and I reported this the day I arrived – 3 days later, the engineer is still looking at it.

There is an upside though. There are only 2 places on site that “the internet” can be accessed. The first is the business centre. Now, at 2500 feet above sea level, the uphill hike from my room seems a little harsh just for my e-mail fix. The other place however seems a lot more attractive – While still uphill, the bar at least offers some liquid respite from the altitude.

The last couple of days have seen us basting slowly in the valley of the waves at Sun City. Now, sunburnt to buggery and a couple hundred quid down due to the casino, today we are taking it easy. And then Randy the horney elephant makes a show. He’s a young chap, apparently you can tell by the size of his horn, er, sorry, tusks.

By the time he got this close though, he’d been though a few bushes.

The hotel also has an animal hide next to a water hole. Randy and his buddies like an early evening hose down.
